Price matching at Wal-Mart (Is it worth it?)

Overall Rating: WORTH IT!

Description: Most of you are probably aware of this already, but you can bring in any other major grocery store ads and Wal-Mart will match any price of the sales other stores are offering. This way you can get all the best deals all in one place. Grocery stores often will have a few attention grabbing deals just to get you in their store. They know they will take a loss on these items, but they want to get you to their store and hope you buy lots more overpriced things. When you take all the store busters and put them together, you actually do get some pretty sweet deals.

Pros:
Potentially you can save TONS of money and get the name brand stuff you like for pretty darn cheap.

Have the satisfaction of being super thrifty!

My favorite- you can be randomly really nice to the other people in line with you and look in their cart to see if you they have anything you can help them save money on. I have done this a few times with awesome results. I love surprising strangers like that. Just tonight I saved the lady in front of me about $5 on just two things. The look on her face made that whole trip worth it.

If like me you sometimes just really want to go shopping, this is great way to do it because you are getting stuff you need anyway, and still fulfilling your craving to shop without buying things you don't need.

Cons:
You have to go to Wal Mart...haha (not my favorite place in the world, and sometimes my least favorite place)- although after doing this a few times, I went to Tom Thumb and felt like their prices were highway robbery. Go shopping late at night or early in the morning, and your trip will be much more pleasant.

You have to spend about 10-15 minutes looking through the ads at home and about 5 minutes showing the cashier at the checkout. So it does take a bit more time overall, but if you have the time, why not save the monies?

Tips:
IMPORTANT: You HAVE to bring in the whole store ad so they can see the dates and make sure its not really old.

They DO let you use the sales on produce and meat as long as its exactly the same thing ( ex: red seedless grapes)
(with meat they are a little more picky)

They DON'T let you use buy one get one free coupons from other stores.

They are not generally picky with what kind of that product you get as long as it doesn't say only a particular kind. Example: Sale for Tom Thumb said Wolf Chili was 79 cents a can (didn't specify which kind of chili, so I got one of the nicer ones
(homestyle) and saved over a buck on each can. I bought six cans so right there I saved about $7.

Enjoy the process-if you like bargain hunting, this is really perfect for you! Take your time, and have fun! However, If you like to get in and out of the store in ten minutes, please DO NOT do this...you will be miserable.

As with most coupon temptation, only buy things you would get anyway. That's the cool thing about shopping this way though; unlike clip coupons that are often really weird stuff you would never buy, store ads put the most common things on sale
